Results From Points Race #9 - Sept. 21

A HEART FELT THANK YOU TO ALL THAT RACED POINTS AT MPD

NOW WE BEGIN POINTS FOR THE GOLD CARD, TOP 10/CLASS BACK TO ZERO

No one could have scripted this one the way it played out. These results are about 2 different Championships. 1 is the overall Track Championship, the other is Summit Super Series Track Champion who has the opportunity to race for the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. We began the race with Gene Stanley and Josh Baker firmly tied in Summit Super Series Points with Donnie Brown back 1 Rd and Carl Drake back only 2 Rds. back and Div.3 Hot Rod Champ Ricky Roe only 3 Rds. back. Roy Blair had 4 Rds over both Keith Purvis and Chris Garrett who were on attack mode to take the 1st Place $3,000 Prize for the Track Points.

During First Round everybody who needed to win won except Carl Drake who was late at the tree but went Dead-on his 5.65 with a .004 and Donnie Brown who was treed with a .005 R/T by Calvin Smith. Remember, just this year at the banquet everyone voted that buyback wins counted for points so Donnie & Carl weren't out but had up hill battles.

There was no friends to be found in the lanes 2nd Rd.  Josh Baker won going Dead-on with a Zero, Donnie got back in the mix with a .001 R/T win, but Gene Stanley's night was over losing to a .002 R/T & .014 above run by Chris Garrett who was still making points for the overall Track Championship and took 2nd overall alone as Keith Purvis fell to the pressure cooker going well red. Carl Drake also turned on the Win Light going Dean-on his 5.85 with a .004 while Roy Blair didn't have any problems with the 2nd Rd. sitting on the Bye from his .003 R/T in the 1st Rd.

In Round 3 Roy Blair got his win with a Red in the other lane, Carl Drake had his best light .015 but went -.003 under, Donnie Brown used the Bye he gained with a .001 in the 2nd, and Josh Baker the Summit leader at the moment, had his friend Erica Stormes in the lanes. It deserves mention that they really tried to stay separated but it didn't work out in the lanes. What made some folks scratch their heads is that Erica "wore out" Josh in the 3rd going .001 on the tree and Dead-on with an .008. This made things interesting and everyone has loads of respect for those 2 racing full out.

Bye Round 4 Donnie Brown is still 1 Rd. behind Josh Baker in the Summit race and Roy Blair had officially attained the ring and won the overall Track Championship. Roy wasn't happy with only the Points win, he wanted the race and won the 4th going Dead-on his 4.97 again, this time with an .008 and an .016 R/T. Michael Brown, who bears notice but hasn't been mentioned in the earlier rounds took another win with a .009 R/T in the 4th setting up another strange matchup.

In 5th Round Donnie Brown was down to 4 cars and, with a win, would take the lead in the Summit Points. The others left in were Calvin Smith, who had been on fire winning each round, but was acting as a spoiler in Points, Roy Blair, who had already won the Track Points Chase not to mention the previous race, and Michael Brown, Donnie's son. Donnie came in the lanes first for the Right Lane he'd ran all night. Michael waited in the rear for Calvin and Roy to pull up beside Donnie but neither did so Michael who'd been in the Left all night went in. The pairings were set! If Michael loses Donnie is the Summit Champion! NO WAY, Michael goes .002 on the tree and womps on dad taking the win and leaving an improbable tie in Summit Super Series between Donnie Brown and Josh Baker. Each taken out by their closest companion (hopefully they're all still talkin') Roy cruises to another rd. win going Dead-on with an .008.

The weather was terrible that morning but after things cleared out in the afternoon it was marvelous racing but as anticipated the crowd was down but we had serious ties to address. 30 Top ET cars made 1st Rd which made it a 6 Round race instead of the usual 7 or 8 Rounds. No matter, the race was hotly contested and on par with any before and those in the finals deserve a round of applause. Michael Brown won the race, Roy Blair was R/U but there was still unresolved issues, a Summit Champion to crown. Tie breaker went to best 2 of 3 and a time run was offered. The results of the entire event are below and as stated before, you've got to respect the sportsmanship displayed by MPD racers!
